Visual Art is where students are given the opportunity to express themselves visually in a range of media including; drawing, painting, modeling, sewing, construction, collage and textiles.

We use a range of materials, tools, techniques and understandings to develop our own art works. We also explore art works by specific artists or art periods and recreate our own versions of these.

Students have one hour of Visual Art every week and where possible are given the opportunity to have their art work displayed in the community through competitions, shows and displays.

Some prior achievements and special events

In the last few years R.H.P.S has had a rich Visual Art program including workshops with cartoonist Richard Galbraith and a visit from Paint Storm.

Mali the Elephant

To celebrate the 150th birthday of Zoos Victoria, our Grade 3/4 students were successful with their banner entry in VicSuper’s ‘Have you Herd about Extinction’ competition, placing in the top ten.  The prize was an opportunity to decorate a mini Mali sculpture, which was then displayed at the Mooroolbark Community Centre and the Melbourne Zoo.  Mali still holds pride of place in our foyer!

Grade 6 Legacy Project

Grade 6 students completed a Legacy project for the school, creating a large pencil sculpture based on the TRIBES agreements. It is now installed near the Boorai Building for everyone to enjoy.

AG Ideas Children

R.H.P.S has also participated in AG Ideas Children for design workshops which has gifted Art students travelling to the city to work with real life designers from around the world.

Aquatic Mural

Grade 3 students were involved in a combined school's project, creating a wonderful mural for the fish and chips shop on Hull Rd, as part of an anti-graffiti campaign in the Yarra Ranges Shire.

Artist in Schools

The mosaic on our Canteen wall was created as part of our Artist in Schools program, with artist Brooke Taylor. This project also provided all students with the opportunity to create the mosaic stepping stones, seen around the yard.

Lilydale Show

Students from R.H.P.S. have also been successful in the Arts and Crafts sections of the Lilydale Show in the last few years with many receiving place ribbons for their art work.
